I had the pleasure of speaking with long time FGI member Evie Huntington about her journey from buyer to business owner.
A UW graduate, she started working in the fashion industry in college, upon graduation she joined The Bon Marche (now Macy’s) and was a buyer within the year, eventually becoming a Merchandising VP.After 15 years in merchandising she shifted to Human Resources joining Eddie Bauer’s Recruiting Division where she recruited top merchandising and design talent for the company Her experience with FGI has been a good one, especially since she once served as the Networking Committee Chair helping organize 100+ attendees at events (we’ll be talking to you Evie!). Evie went on to describe her 20 year experience with FGI by saying, “being a member of FGI has been a great opportunity to meet people in the local fashion community and a gateway to extend and expand my business through contacts at FGI, both professionally and personally.”
A recognized Northwest Fashion Industry Professional with over 25 years in the Retail Industry including Recruiting, Buying/Merchandising and Store Management. Evie’s experience includes working for tri-channel specialty retailers/manufacturers with retail, catalog and internet distribution venues as well as experience in the traditional department store environment.
Evie provides recruiting and staffing services to Northwest retailers and wholesalers. Her company focuses on Apparel/Home Furnishing companies who are interested in identifying local talent to meet their staffing needs. She also offers resume writing, job search consulting, interview preparation and job offer negotiations to individual clients in all fields of work worldwide.
Evie’s last experience was as the Director of Recruiting for Eddie Bauer, based at Eddie Bauer’s World Headquarters in Bellevue, Washington. She was responsible for attracting, recruiting, hiring, and retaining qualified & committed Associates for the Company. She directed the efforts of three separate recruiting teams: Corporate Recruiting, Call Center Recruiting, and Stores Recruiting, which together supported a total population of 17,000 Eddie Bauer Associates. She also developed and managed the Succession Planning Initiative for Eddie Bauer, identifying top talent and developing programs to prepare them for future advancement within the company.
Prior to joining Eddie Bauer in Recruiting, Evie was a Divisional Vice President at Bon-Macy’s, a division of Federated Department Stores. During her tenure, she was responsible for buying and merchandising the Women’s Sportswear areas, and supervising a staff of 14 Buyers and Assistants.
