|MEMBER PROFILE – LISA HUNTER
We have to assume FGI Member Lisa Hunter is looking forward to watching the show Fashion Star airing on NBC in March, as she will be one of the stars! We spoke with Lisa last week at her boutique – Vian Hunter in Madison Valley. Lisa originally tried out for Project Runway but after not making it, was put on a casting list and NBC later notified her about Fashion Star.
What drew her to the program was that it was not about the drama and fighting, but it was more about the business of fashion. The premise of the show is that every week the designers are trying to make real, wearable products. Buyers from major retailers then come in to decide if they will purchase what the designers have made. “What’s exciting is that the designer’s pieces can be purchased the day after the show airs at places like Saks, Macy’s or H&M.” Lisa told us.
Since the show was filmed entirely last summer, Lisa (and another Seattle-area designer – Lizzy Parker) have had to keep it a secret from everyone. “Only my family knew the reason I was in L.A. all last summer” she says. The 26th of January was when she finally got the OK from NBC to talk about it. She is elated to be a part of a program that really shows the business side of fashion. Elle MacPherson will be the host, along with Jessica Simpson, John Varvatos, and Nicole Richie as mentors.
Vian Hunter is a vintage clothing and vintage inspired clothing boutique located at 2814 E Madison St in the Madison Valley neighborhood of Seattle.
